Abstract

Analysis of development level of regions and consequently, identifying regional inequalities is of great importance in the way of adopting appropriate development policies in a country. In spite of regional policy of Iran based on reducing the development gap between different regions and creating a relative balance of regional development, yet some regions suffer from lack of basic services and facilities. The aim of this study is to analyze the development level of sub-provinces of Iran and intra-regional inequalities. For this purpose, 54 indicators were chosen and submitted to factor analysis, of which eight factors were extracted related to 46 indicators, which are: infrastructures and housing, health facilities, educational factor, human power, industry, agriculture, rural facilities, and cultural factor. These factors account for nearly 73% of the variance. Ranking of sub-provinces was done based on Composite index of development. Results showed that there are obvious differentiations among sub-provinces in development level so, it is urgent to improve development indicators -especially in which inequity is critical- in backward regions.
