Assessment and Evaluation of Flood Risk Factors (Case Study: Dashtiari Watershed)

Abstract

Nowadays, due to the occurrence of floods in most watersheds, the necessity of examining the influencing factors in these areas has gained increasing attention. Assessing the factors affecting flood risk to evaluate vulnerability and exposure provides valuable information for flood management. In this regard, the aim of this study is to assess and evaluate the influencing factors in flood risk (Case Study: Dashtiari Watershed). This research is descriptive-analytical in terms of methodology and applied in terms of purpose. Data collection methods include both library research and field surveys. In this study, flood hazard zoning and risk assessment in the Dashtiari region were conducted using 13 factors (such as slope, elevation, soil texture, etc.). Data analysis was performed using ArcGIS software, the IGR index, and the Random Forest algorithm. According to the results, approximately 5.40% of the study area is at the highest risk, 33.63% is at high risk, 37.94% is at moderate risk, 18.70% is at lower risk, and 4.31% is at the lowest risk. About 50% of residential areas are located in high-risk zones, which, in the event of a flood, could result in severe human and financial losses.
